Kirstin E. Menzies
Family Law Mediator & Collaborative Lawyer
Kirstin has practiced family law since her call to the bar of British Columbia in August 2007. She has focused on out of court processes since 2013, as she believes that these promote the healthiest outcomes possible for all those involved; in particular, the children. Kirstin’s preference is to help families find solutions in her role as family law mediator. She also acts as legal counsel in certain circumstances.

Kirstin welcomes the opportunity to assist her clients in settling their separation and divorce issues, as efficiently as possible, on their own terms, all while retaining control of the process. If you are looking for a mediator or family lawyer, who is both compassionate and effective, we invite you to contact us to schedule a consultation. We can help you find the process that is best suited to resolving your unique separation.
Kirstin graduated with distinction from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology prior to attending law school at the University of British Columbia. After living and working in the Vancouver area for 10 years following law school, in 2017 she returned home to Vancouver Island and established Menzies Family Law in Victoria.
Kirstin is experienced and skilled as an advocate, having appeared in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia in separation and divorce cases. However, she observed that going to court, although sometimes necessary, often produced disappointing results for families. The adversarial process can further fuel existing conflict. So, Kirstin decided to pursue further training, and since 2013 has been qualified as a Family Law Mediator and Collaborative Law Professional. She was admitted as a member of the BC Collaborative Roster Society in 2015, which requires both training and experience, and a commitment to continuing education and work annually, in Collaborative Practice. Menzies Family Law has extensive experience in negotiated, mediated, and Collaborative settlements of family law cases involving parenting arrangements, division of family property and debts, and support issues.
Kirstin lives in the West Shore of Victoria, BC, and is able to serve clients throughout British Columbia. She is a mother of two children and her favourite things include their laughter, hot coffee, rare moments of solitude, and being outside near the water.
